Wow! What a fabulous weekend. From the homecoming parade on Friday to finally reclaiming my Bush/Cheney sign from John Brown on Sunday, I had an awesome time in K-town!
I honestly thought that it would be weird to go back and see all my college friends since I’m now such a seasoned alumni. But it wasn’t. We picked right up where we left. UT Roomie even said that it felt like we were roomies again (I miss you girl!).
It was so strange how I just happened to run into people. I saw Amy on Friday as she was leaving campus. Sarah at Target, Paul and Rachel at the game, and of course all the CRs at the tailgate party.
The game was boring as most homecoming ones are, but the halftime show was terrific. I’ve always loved the alumni band. All the 70-year-old trumpet players crack me up. They may have a heartattack in the middle of Neyland Stadium, but they are determined to march during the half-time show. It’s also impressive that decades after they graduate, alumni still remember the discipline of the Pride of the Southland Marching Band. I’d like to see the lousy Sunshine Band at UF do that.
On to Stickergate.
Most likely, this is the University exerting some revenge on us. Keep in mind that they honestly have a reason to hate the CRs after the Issues Committee debacle last year. That created a lot of bad press with their largely conservative alumni base. The administration is going to remember this.
Vols might be copyrighted, but in a lawsuit, they would be hard-pressed to prove that they’ve actively protected the word “vols” in the past. Every organization uses it, plus every other campaign in the past has used stickers with the word “vol” in it. If they go after us, they need to go after all the sororities that wear stickers with “vols” on it. This also dangerously treads on suppression of political speech. I wish I had my comm law book. Teeter and Leiter would probably have something interesting to say about this.
On to the “anonymous” poster on John’s blog. Even though you deserve a harsher analogy, get a backbone. Either CRs has a highly-placed spy that knows how to manipulate Condry and Groves, or someone is being a complete ass. Seeing that only a handful of people understand the inner workings of the factions within CRs, there’s a very small pool of people that you could fall into. Since most of those people side with Bethany, we can pretty much deduce who you are. Stop trying to cause more fights within the organization. Believe me, it won’t do anything but make us flame you on our blogs. As Bethany said, leave “anonymous” to gay porn sites.
